MADISON (WKOW)-- Six-Time Lumberjack World Champion Shana Verstegen will not get the chance to compete in the Midwest Log Rolling Championships this year because of the pandemic.
"This is what we train for, this is what we look forward to, this is what drives us, and when this stuff is canceled it takes a chunk out of your heart," Verstegen said.
Log Rollers instead poured their heart into making the championships virtual.
"Back in the 70s, a really popular event at the Lumberjack World Championships was the 'Trick and Fancy' division where they got on the log and they would juggle, and hula hoop, and jump rope," Verstegen said. "That event has been long gone for years, but we thought, why not bring it back."
Log rollers of all ages across the U.S. and Canada filmed videos showing off different tricks while log rolling. Videos included everything from solving a Rubik's Cube, playing the trumpet, and Verstegen did a fitness class.

The virtual log rolling competition is also benefitting a charity that is extremely close to Shana's heart.
"The Midwest Log Rolling Championships has also been one of our bigger fundraisers for the Huntington's Disease Society of America Wisconsin Chapter," Verstegen said. "My mom passed away from Huntington's Disease back in 2013, and the log rolling community has always been such a big part of that battle."
Madison Log Rolling is encouraging people to try something new this summer. They are open for private log rolling lessons. The coaches wear a mask and keep their distance during lessons.
