FITCHBURG (WKOW) — Hundreds ran and walked at McKee Farms Park in Fitchburg to help find a cure for Huntington’s disease.
It’s part of the national Team Hope Initiative.
Huntington’s disease is a terminal, neurological brain disease that affects more than 4,000 people in Wisconsin.
The disease is genetic, impacting many of those who showed up at the event Sunday.
“My mom passed away of this disease in 2013. Luckily, I tested negative, so Grayson [my son] will never have Huntington’s disease, I’ll never have it, so we’re paying it forward and trying to help find a cure in any way we possibly can, especially with this run/walk today,” said Shana Verstegen, a volunteer coordinator.
After the races, there was a pizza lunch donated by Glass Nickel Pizza.
