Eau Claire (WQOW) – A local group is raising awareness and searching for a cure for Huntington’s disease, a hereditary condition that breaks down brain cells over time.
The fifth annual Team Hope Walk for Huntington’s disease was held Saturday in Carson Park.
The event is a way for those that suffer from the disease, their loved ones and the community to come together and support one another while raising money for research toward a cure.
For many participants the walk is a way to remember those who have passed away from the disease, and bring hope for a brighter future with a cure.
“My husband died in 2013 of Huntington’s disease at the age of 49-years-old,” said Becky Cater, a Team Hope committee member. “We have two children, and at the time we didn’t know that they were at risk or that he even had it, and so my kids have a fifty-fifty chance of having it so i want to find a cure.”
